Volunteering
with the TSTV-News 2005
The
Newsletter has now been in operation printing and distributing this
newsletter for over ten years, it is run as a not for profit
organisation and everyone volunteers free of charge. The hard copy is
freely available, but will require a stamped addressed envelope of
stamps to cover the cost of postage.
The
newsletter relies solely on donations, advertisers are actively
encouraged to donate a reasonable amount and this is the backbone of
financing the cost of production.
The
present core of volunteers gather and collate current
information from mail, telephone and e-mails. The newsletter is
assembled as sub-documents in Wordperfect, usually in Ariel 12 in
two column mode, a wide range of pictures in a number of formats are
received some are embedded in Corel presentations others are ole'd. We
may move onto SGML or its successors.
The
finished document is sent electronically to a high speed
duplicator, and copies are produced at 120 copies a minute, about 4,500
sheets of each page, two sided.
The
main production is carried out in Islington, London.
These
sheets are then collated by hand and folded by a number of
others, mainly in Greater London.
Distribution
is all done by volunteers from 10 copies to
400 copies each depending on the area needs.
We
do not produce an on line copy at the moment, most need is for a hard
copy.
A
large number of SAE's have to be stuffed and sent out. We do not have
subscriptions

Newsletter
Ethos
and Ethics
The
newsletter was originally produced by just two people of much different
political and religious outlook, which has striven to deliver a balance
view of the Transgendered position in modern life, one a transsexual
and one a transvestite. We now have a wider constituency but welcome
consistent input from all areas of TG
community. The production is supported by number of other volunteers
working from their homes folding and collating, as the quantity of
copies and pages increased more volunteers are reqired to lighten the
central load. Another group of volunteers around the regions help
deliver the newsletters to their local area. The newsletter has
tried to maintained a good working relationship with most of the TG
community.
We
look for a non-judgmental accepting outlook people to volunteer to help
in all areas of the production.
This does not mean without a view and personal position on issues. To
be honest and open.
Some
tasks can be accomplished remotely while others require a nearness to
London.
Electronic
communications is a must in some areas and not in others
